Women’s Writing Circle (International Women’s Week)

Women’s Writing Circleis a facilitated safe space where women meet, write and share (with no obligations). Open to all who identify as women. No prior writing experience required. This event is a part of International Women’s Week at Ryerson University.


Preeti Kaur Dhaliwal (she/her) is a critical race feminist, writer, lawyer, college professor and facilitator who grew up on unceded Coast Salish territories (between Surrey and North Delta, BC). She left her legal career to complete a Master of Laws where she used theatre, creative writing and performance art to investigate how law lives in the body. Now pursuing her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Guelph, she is working on a novel that explores themes of loss, intergenerational trauma, touch, race and sexuality. Preeti’s writing has appeared in PRISM international, Looseleaf Magazine, the Festival of Literary Diversity’s program (FOLD), alt. theatre magazine, Theatre Research in Canada, and No Foundations, amongst other publications.

With over 15 years of facilitation and teaching experience, Preeti is committed to and passionate about arts-based methodologies as a source of personal and collective empowerment, expression and transformation. She has taught creative writing at Guelph-Humber College and led arts-based workshops in Ontario, BC, Quebec, and Seattle. Preeti currently lives, writes and plays in Tkaronto, and stands in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs.
